A Joy compressor built more than 30 years ago, labeled obsolete by the manufacturer, rebuilt with a new high-speed pinion and a 5-axis milled 3rd stage impeller, then reinstalled and back in production.
Once again, we were handed a compressor labeled “Obsolete” by the manufacturer. Was it in good shape? No. Was it functional? No. Was the job easy? Absolutely not. But at The Fischer Group, we specialize in breathing new life into aging equipment, and this challenge was no different.

What the rebuild included
This Joy compressor was built more than 30 years ago and it’s a prime example of our approach. Despite visible wear, damage and decades of service, our technicians completed a comprehensive rebuild in record time. The overhaul included:
- A newly manufactured high-speed pinion
- A precision 5-axis milled 3rd stage impeller
- All new bearings and seals
- A fully refinished compressor casing
This isn’t just repair. It’s restoration to a new standard, and these are the benchmark elements of every rebuild we deliver.
Back in service
The “obsolete” compressor is now fully reinstalled and operational. Along with the refurbished gear-case, new high-speed pinion and 3rd stage impeller, the unit received new oil coolers, water piping and seals. The motor has been laser-aligned, and the unit is grouted and in full service, contributing to production and sustainability at the facility.
